I’m not really trying to be rude or call anyone out. You guys know me and that’s not really my thing. It’s just that I’ve been to the printer a few times this week. To tell you the truth, it’s been a frustrating experience each time. I can’t help but notice that the community stapler is consistently empty. My papers have been pretty disorganized is all I’m saying. I don’t know whose job it is to fill the stapler. I figure it has to be someone’s, right? If we haven’t assigned that to anyone, I would think it’s a pretty big oversight.
This company did over 5 million in sales last year and the reason we did that is because we have our details buttoned down. We’re really good at executing and our attention to detail is what makes us stand out. That’s our Brand. When people envision us, they probably think “Man those guys are so on top of it. I’ll bet they don’t have an empty stapler in the bunch.”
Just last week, the people over at Hathaway, LLC were commenting to me that we really did a nice job with their account in October. They said our consideration of the little things is what made the partnership work. Do you think they’d be thrilled if they knew that I was standing at the printer for 5 minutes each time I needed to print something, just looking around for a full stapler? I don’t think that’s what we’re billing them for.
This isn’t a joke guys. I know this seems trivial but again, it’s about execution. I’d like a few of you to get together to come up with some sort of process chart to decide how we can avoid this pitfall again. Let’s get this problem buttoned up, ok? I don’t want this issue to make us less competitive in the marketplace. We have to be on top of our game. You may think, “Oh wow, 5 minutes isn’t the difference between winning and losing.” Let me tell you something, Michael Phelps won the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal for the 100 meter Butterfly by .01 second. Do you think Michael Phelps would have won the gold medal if he spent 5 minutes at the printer, trying to find a stapler that actually worked? I don’t think so.
Bottom line is this. I’m not using paperclips even though we have a lot of them. I’m just not. They don’t hold paper that well and I’d just really prefer a stapler. So someone needs to step up and be accountable for the stapler thing, ok? Great. Sorry for the long rant but it’s just one of those things that I want to get under control before it turns into something more.
