I went to Las Vegas this past weekend. Now in Las Vegas you need not worry about finding something to do. There are enough magic shows, stripteases and Cirque du Solei’s to choke a man to death.
Being the poor vacation planner that I am, I waited until the last minute to book the evening’s entertainment. Luckily, Bill Cosby was playing a one night show at Treasure Island.
It was the biggest jackpot I could have asked for while in Sin City.
I watched the man who basically invented Stand-up comedy perform his craft at a very romanticized location. I mean, this is the Vegas Strip. All of the old comedy legends made their mark on that piece of desert land.
He was as funny as ever. My girlfriend and I were probably the youngest people in the entire audience, but we enjoyed it thoroughly. In fact, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. I found myself laughing at jokes about blood pressure for God’s sake!
Bill Cosby is on a level that maybe 3 or 4 comedians have ever reached. It is beyond celebrity or superstardom; it is near deity. Audiences just want to hear that person’s voice. And for whatever reason, that person makes them laugh without so much as hitting a punchline.
I’m so thrilled that I got to experience a full Bill Cosby set. He closed with his now famous “Dentist Bit.” I knew every nook and cranny of this bit, but still laughed the whole way through.
